Mission: CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT 09/26
Location: M-69
Timeline: current

ON:

Standing near to a large viewport on M-69, A blue-skinned woman stood with arms crossed over her chest, staring out into space. Newly promoted Captain Sheyla was mulling things over in her mind. Several commanding officers had had her as their Number One. Kudo, Taavis, and Loewen. All three had treated her with honor and respect, relied on her when it was needed, and had taught her a great many things on how best to be a commanding officer in charge of people who would be relying on her to make the right decisions. Sheyla was both excited and anxious at the prospect, but being an Andorian, a member of a duty-minded and warrior society, she knew that once she found her rhythm all would be fine. A familiar male voice came from behind her.

"An ounce of latinum for your thoughts?"

The person came in on her left as Sheyla looked over, seeing exactly who she thought it was. Captain Sean Loewen, newly assigned as Fleet Captain in Kudo's place. Ro had been placed on reserve status so she could continue her building of the Meji Order she had started. "A whole ounce? I didn't know you were so wealthy, Captain." She grinned at that, her antennae moving in such a way as to give away her being playful with her boss. Her old boss, she thought, now given the position of being a new boss. Essentially, Loewen was the liaison officer between HQ and M-69, here to work with M-69 out this way, and to shift any resources to M-69 should it need them.

Loewen gave a chuckle and smiled. "I'm not. Never saw the need for it what with replicators. Also, Sheyla, as you are now a captain yourself, you can address me common." To make his point with a bit of melodrama, he extended his hand to be taken in a shake. "A pleasure to meet you, Captain. I'm Sean."

Sheyla gave a silent giggle and smiled, shook her head sarcastically, then gripped his hand in a shake. "The pleasure is mine, Captain. I'm Sheyla." The two of them went into chat mode, talking about the transfer of command and other topics over the next ten minutes.

"Papa!" Both Captains heard that and spun about to look over their shoulders. What followed were two cute little voices that echoed that sentiment. "Papa!" "Papa!" The two Captains watched Yui hurry into a hug with her father, Lt. Ken Kudo, with two small droids decked out like some kind of anime space jockeys running in to hug his legs; one for each leg.

Ken had opened his arms and his daughter came in and hugged him, not expecting her two automatons to match her words and actions in adorable voices. He allowed it to happen given his understanding of his daughter's eccentricities. "Good to see you, Daughter." When the hug broke, he then looked down at the two robots, droids, whatever they were. "And, who are these lovely little ones?" As an engineer he could not help but marvel at their design and construction.

T'Pri, who had been walking with Ken, stood quietly with hands clasped behind her back, taking in the sight of the three who had assaulted Mister Kudo with a plethora of love. She had noted both Captain Sheyla and Captain Loewen looking on, seeing them approach with smiles on their faces. She raided her hand in the Vulcan salute, meant for the captains and Yui. "It is agreeable to see you again, everyone. She did note that Yui was wearing a full body glove, stylized as some type of uniform and protective armor (See bio pics). A dark blue with the armored areas being grey and silver, with lights and touch screens on a forearm with a control screen added to the bracer on the left arm. It looked both comfortable and utilitarian.

Yui, seeing and hearing T'Pri being her common Vulcan self, gave a crooked grin. "May I approach, Miss T'Pri?" She asked with a twinkle of mirth in her eye.

The two feet tall droids both watched the interplay between Mother/Miss Yui, and the others. Their learning CPU's taking in all data and comparing to what they had already seen so far. They gave each other a glance before their eyes went back to the strange female with pointed ears and eyebrows, seeing a very subtle change from cold and stoic eyes, to eyes that matched the sliver of mirth being given.

"If you insist," said T'Pri. "Please, do not linger."

"Yay!" Yui responded with a giggle and stepped in to hug T'Pri, her mentor and friend who had aided with her education over the past few months. Blue and Hazel looked at each other, shrugged, and then went in and latched themselves to T'Pri's legs. T'Pri returned the embrace as best she could being unfamiliar with such actions, and as Yui stepped away the leg huggers stepped away with her.

To answer her dad's query, and for everyone else, Yui motioned down to her two companions. "Everyone, this is Blue," she said as she pointed to the blue and white droid with blue eyes. "And, this is Hazel." She pointed to the pink and white droid with the hazel colored eyes. "I created them on a whim, and was finally able to add the finishing touches over the past few days."

In unison, in stereo with one another, both Blue and Hazel gave a vibrant wave to all with their right hands. "Hi everyone. We are glad to meet you." Everybody said hello back to the droids who just spoke in perfect stereo. "I'm Hazel!" "And, I'm Blue." They said singularly before adding the next part in stereo once more. "It is our pleasure to meet you!" They both gave a bow of respect, honor, and politeness. A bow that was Japanese formal. T'Pri was the only one who did not chuckle at the two cutesie automatons, although she did raise one eyebrow in curiosity as everyone else praised the two for being so well-mannered.

(Pics of the droids can be found in Yui's bio).

"I'm glad you're here, Ken," said Sheyla. "Captain Loewen and I were just discussing the transfer to the USS Diligent once she arrives. All those being assigned to Diligent from Capernaum are also in waiting. I've been churning things over in my mind and I need to ask both of you. Mister Kudo, Miss T'Pri, would either of you feel comfortable as First Officer at this point in your careers?"

They both went to speak at the same time, with T'Pri motioning for Ken to speak first. He gave a nod of thanks before his eyes went to his CO. "I've had command training, and I am married to a Starfleet Captain, so there's the knowledge she passed just from sharing a home. It would be an honor to accept First Officer, Captain." He saw Sheyla getting ready to respond so he jumped in to add a bit more first. "However, that would leave a hole in engineering as I am the assistant chief. If I may continue in that slot I would be grateful, Sheyla."

Sheyla listened even as her antennae went into a casual mode, denoting her acceptance of the conditions even when she had not voiced that yet. "I have no problem with that, Ken. So long as it doesn't affect your performance either way. If you begin to show exhaustion from too much, too quickly, I will have no choice but to address it. Fair?"

"Fair, Captain." Kudo replied. "I would also ask that T'Pri be slotted as the Second Officer, should I need a break from XO to see to other matters."

Sheyla's gaze shifted. "Miss T'Pri, is that acceptable?"

"Yes, Captain," the Vulcan responded. "I will see to the duties of Number One when Mister Kudo is otherwise engaged with engineering duties."

Loewen gave a grin. "A crew is as good as those who lead them." He stated in a friendly tone. "Looks like you're in good hands, Captain Sheyla."

"Sean, would it be too much to ask for Mister Kudo to be promoted to Lt. Commander, what with his new duty post and all?" Sheyla asked.

"Not a problem," Sean replied, giving his palm PADD a few moments of tapping before he looked to Ken. "Lt. Commander Kudo, I believe you are now out of uniform."

Kudo gave a big smile and a chuckle. "I'll correct that error in no time, Captain Loewen. Thank you, both."

Of course, the promotion was another reason for Yui to hug her Papa again, with the two droids copying her in doing so. "Congratulations, Papa! I'm so happy for you!"

"Way to go, Papa!" Hazel said from down by his keens and when he looked down she gave him a thumbs up cute as could be.

"Outstanding, Papa!" Blue added, giving a dual thumbs up. Both of them had big smiles on their faces as they were as happy as Yui, apparently.

"Those two are just adorable," Sean said. "Any chance you could build another one for my daughter to have around?"

Yui balked a bit at that. "I...I guess I could. But, these are the prototypes. Would you want a boy or a girl personality?"

"To start, a girl." Loewen responded. "Maybe get another one if the first is a big hit."

"Look at you," Ken said, nudging his daughter. "Seems you found a business venture without even trying. You do realize that when other parents see these two the same question will be asked?"

"Honestly, I hadn't considered that," said Yui, because she had not considered that others may want a droid for themselves, or family members. "I'm not in a slave trade, though. I expect all of them to be treated with respect and talked to like they have a brain, not just a cute little machine."

T'Pri spoke up at that. "Then you make sure to be firm on that, Yui. They are intelligent and sentient, therefore deserve to be treated fairly. Not as mere trinkets."

"Thank you, T'Pri." Yui gave her mentor a nod of gratitude. "I will insist upon it."

"Yes," said Ken, shaking his head at something in his mind. "I've seen your mother get crotchety when someone refers to Cosmo as a mere machine. Several of the junior officers that worked in her office got an earful when they were cold towards Cosmo simply because he was a mechanical intelligence." That reminded him. "Speaking of which. How far are you on building my BB unit? With the Diligent coming, now would be a good time to get him finished and assigned to me, Yui."

Yui gave her dad a budge and squeezed his forearm. "Kami is still working on him. Should not be very much longer. We've done a lot of travelling and moving around, and with me being a Lt. Major of the Concordium Expeditionary Forces I was otherwise engaged in building my squadron with the right people."

Ken was surprised by what she said. "You're in the military, daughter?"

Yui looked him in the eye. "Yes and no, Papa. What I have to say to further the subject is for a private discussion. As it stands, I am an honorary officer of that rank. A Lt. Major is the same as a captain in the Starfleet marines, and Chancellor Barnephous felt it would be a good idea to grant me some authority when it comes to the Concordium military."

"Smart man," Sean said offhandedly. "No wonder you didn't want to join Starfleet. One can't serve two masters."

"It's not like that!" Yui snapped back, her eyes and brow showing the anger that flared. "I am not military," she said more calmly after clearing her throat. "I just built a select group of foolhardy pilots into a squadron to be reckoned with. But, I'm here and they are at home in the Quazi Concordium."

"I wasn't accusing, Yui," said Sean. "Just a statement of fact. Apologies if it was impolite."

Yui said it was fine, and apologized to him in return for her reaction. The group got moving to an au fresco eatery, with tables along the railing to look down onto the Promenade level below, and give the allure of a wide open space. Blue and Hazel went to the railing and leaned through the child restraints, both their eyes big and wide at all they were seeing. Talk about input! They were taking it all in with milliseconds of time as they looked around, committing it all to memory. "Wow, Blue! Look at all the bigness!"

Blue, also overcome by the sight of all that this station truly was, even for this small portion they could perceive. "Let's zoom around and check it out!" A little jetpack appeared on both their backs, a product of quantum mechanics and nano-tech. Their hands and feet also had ion thrust to help them maneuver while in flight. The technology was based on cold fusion so, therefore, there was very little thermal damage their thrusters could do to anyone or anything.

"Miss Yui, Miss Yui!?" Hazel was patting Yui's arm excitedly. "Can we go on a exploration zoom-zoom?"

Yui hesitated, not sure how much trouble the two 'newborns' might be able to get into without her around to tell them no, and explain things. "You can go, but make sure you don't bother anyone, don't take anything that isn't yours, and be polite at all times. Can you two do that?" Both droids gave her head nods so robust that an organic might get a headache from it. "Go ahead, then. If I'm not here by the time you get back you know your way to our quarters. Go home and wait for me there, okay?"

"Yay!" They said in unison before lifting off and truly zooming away as they stayed next to each other, each of them pointing at something different to the other as they went.

"Something tells me you're going to be a good mother some day." Said Ken, giving his daughter a lean in nudge of affection. "I can't wait to see how Security reacts to those two zooming around." He gave a chuckle.

Yui gave a smile and a slight giggle. "Yeah. As long as they don't do anything foolish then there is no reason to detain them. But, I'm ready for that. What did my Papa always tell me?" She tapped her chin in jest. "Oh yeah. The best way to learn is hands-on. At some point I'll have to rescue them from their own curiosity. Their programming is angled towards learning all they can about everything. Once they develop their own agenda and likes, then I can see where that will lead. Perhaps I have a new form of BB unit, with arms and legs, and cute little frames people will find hard to be angry with."

Ken patted Yui's hand. "I can see that my engineer's brain rubbed off on you. Makes me proud. As does your willingness to join your mother in the Meji Order. I'm not the metaphysical Meji. Just a man with a particular set of skills who finds the Meji Way to my liking."

"It is very Bushido, Father." Said Yui. "Perhaps you and Mother could visit the Mejilore Islands with me, on Quaza. From orbit the islands kind of look like the Old Country. Why I chose them as sovereign territory of the Kudo clan."

"Kudo clan?" Ken's look of surprise made her giggle. "I take it with the help of Qeritas there is an actual Quazi family=clan named Kudo? I take it there are others?"

Yui gave a nod, smiling at the surprise and wonderment in her Papa's eyes. "Quazi society is based off of Nippon, Father. There are many clans, some larger than others. Those who helped build the Concordium into what it is now through an expedited evolutionary process, are the ones who have a Star City named after them. Kudo, Zethra, Salwah, Kurokawa, Ikifube, and so on. Star City Kudo is the size of Manhattan Island, and just as populated. But, beautiful to behold within. I can't wait to show you. Grampa Aaron has already been there, and to Quaza, as he is trying to get Quaza to come out of their isolationist position. So far, Chancellor Barnephous is holding back. I call him Barney in private. He's a dear friend and Cait's father."

"Friends in high places, eh?" Ken gave her a grin. "As extroverted as you are I don't find that surprising."

"I am the product of my beloved parents, Father. That's all." Yui remained humble, and her Father was one of her heroes. As the food was brought out and placed before each of them, the conversation switched to friendly banter and fun.
