Another hour went by as the Captain was talking with the Counselor and his Number One concerning giving the Crew a few days shore leave once they returned home. There was still one thing left O'Connell wanted to do "Commander you have the Conn; Lieutenant SanChez may I have a word in my Ready Room."

"Aye Captain" Maria replied as her relief walked over and attended to Tactical then Maria followed Jamie to his Office.

< Ready Room >

"Please have a seat" Jamie instructed then sat behind his desk. Seeing a strange look on her face he ginned "And no you're not in any trouble" as he gave a light chuckle.

With a small sigh of relief "That's good to know" then she paused "So why did you ask to speak with me."

"Since you've agreed to fill in for Commander Devroe when she's on the Genesis I can only think that you're thinking about increasing in rank when the opportunity presents itself" Jamie stated.

"Yes I've been thinking about it recently. If you'd asked me a couple of years ago I would have said no way. But now things are different" Maria explained with a smile.

"So what's changed in the past two years to change your mind" Jamie inquired wanting to know where her head was at.

"You did Captain. I see what kind of a Captain and person you are.....a brilliant leader who genuinely cares for his Crew. That's what I want to aspire to be some day Sir" SanChez replied with a smile.

"Thank you for trusting me and for your kind words" then he paused a moment "And you are far different from that smart mouthed rough talking woman I saw when you first came aboard. Anyway I would like to offer you Second Officer and make it official; that would be added to your present duties if you think you can handle another assignment."

"Absolutely Captain, but I would only be doing Second Officer things when Commander Devroe was off Ship? Maria inquired.

"Yes that's correct but I may also include you in any Command meetings so you can gain experience. If you continue to do a great job, as you have been, then in six months we'll see about a promotion to Lieutenant Commander" Jamie concluded with a smile.

Maria was smiling from ear to ear "I'd like that Captain and rest assured I'll be giving one hundred ten percent same as I always have."

"There is no doubt in my mind" Jamie replied "Computer, Crew update. Lieutenant, SanChez, Maria is hereby promoted to Second Officer this date and time going forward with all the rites thereof." The Computer replied reciting back the information. "There now it's official....you are the Peel's Second Officer"
as Jamie stood and offered his hand "Congratulations and you're dismissed."

Shaking his hand "Thank you Captain" she replied then turned and returned to her duties feeling very good about herself.

Walking back to Command "Commander report" O'Connell ordered as Angel vacated the center chair.

"Captain we are one hour from M-69; so we'll be home soon" Devroe replied with a grin happy to be getting back to the Base.

"Excellent" O'Connell replied as he sat "Lieutenant Sayvek I would like a report no your findings concerning the Sirens to go along with mine. I think Star Fleet is going to be very interested in your discovery."

" This is unprecedented according to Star Fleet records. It was thought nothing could exist in such spatial environment but clearly we have dispelled that myth. It would be fascinating to probe the slipstream and gather further study. A Captain Kingston is apparently at Starbase M-69 doing research on this version of the slipstream. Upon our arrival I look forward to giving him our reports." Sayvek replied.

"Since you're the Science Chief I'll give you the pleasure of giving your report to Captain Kingston and I'll also include it in my reports to Admiral Stone and Fleet Captain Green" O'Connell stated.

"Captain we're approaching the Base" Helm called out.

"Mr.Hanes drop us out of warp.....one half impulse and headed to our docking bay" O'Connell ordered.

"As you wish Captain....dropping out of warp going to one half impulse" Jack replied as he made the necessary course adjustments.

"Comms hail the Station" came the order "Traffic Control this is Captain Jamie O'Connell of the Peel requesting Docking Bay 58-2" the Captain stated.

"Welcome home Captain and you're cleared for Docking Bay 58-2" traffic control replied.

"Ensign you know the drill, she's all yours"O'Connell ordered as he sat back down in his seat.

"Aye Captain going to thrusters......easing the Ship in.......all stop....engaging docking clamps.....umbilicals attached" as he turned towards Command "We're now at Station Keeping Sir" the Ensign informed Command.

Tapping his comm "Lieutenant Flannery we're docked and at station keeping; please put the warp core on standby mode" O'Connell ordered.

"As you wish Captain; the warp core is now on standby mode" Marcus replied happy to be home.

Tapping his comm a second time "Attention Crew, this is the Captain. Thank you all for a job well done. The next five days we'll be at the Station so please take this opportunity to have a change of scenery; standard rotation applies. O'Connell out."

Looking to Angel then Sarissa "Ladies enjoy yourselves the next few days and recharge" Jamie ordered with a grin "I know I will."

Johan walked up to Sarissa "I have something special planned for us on the Station" he commented with a big grin as he grabbed her hand and they left the Bridge on their way back to their quarters.
