Capernum: A Transfer and An Idea
Posted on Mon Sep 1st, 2025 @ 3:42pm by Captain Rogue "Ro" Kudo {Meji Master} {Flt. Cpt.} & Captain Sean Loewen {Meji} & Lieutenant Commander Sheyla {MD} & Lieutenant JG Jynxza Dahl {Meji} {AKA: Toots}
Mission:
The Inner Flame
Location: USS Capernum
Timeline: Current
ON:
Ro Green was in uniform, a hip length red maternity top on that was spacious enough for her to move well while pregnant. During her latest hot bath she had detected another growth spurt for Yui in the womb, the fetus coming along nicely and in good health. She was just short of becoming Yui completely, allowing for gestation to complete her weight gain and give her the beautiful eyes she would possess. All the minor details of life. For the past two weeks Ro had began a steady regimen of reading out loud to her daughter in English, Japanese (all dialects), Klingon (all dialects), Vulcan, and Romulan (all dialects), at minimum three times a day. She would pick some journal or book at random, then read each page in the languages one at a time, all while locked in a mental connection through the Force. Yui would, if she chose, be able to enter a career and profession where being multi-lingual was a must. Stepping into a lift, Green was then whisked up through the decks and deposited on the command deck; stepping out onto the familiar Bridge of the USS Capernum. Just to her left as she stepped out was T'Pri, whom she gave a slow nod to.
"Captain Green," T'Pri said in greeting, in a normal voice tone. This caused Loewen and others to look her way.
"Permission to enter the Bridge, Captain Loewen?" Ro asked.
Sean got to his feet even as he said, "Permission granted, Captain Green." His stride took him through the lower Bridge and then up to where she was. "Welcome. If this is an inspection, Captain, I assure you all is in order and you won't even find any dust." He gave a mischievous grin.
Green giggled. "I'm sure I won't. And, no, not an inspection. Just...boredom. Been a while since I've seen planetary approach from a cruiser Bridge. Plus, it's all part of Yui's education. She sees in her mind what I see and hear."
Kudo sat over along the bulkhead stations with Resch, on the port side. He smiled as he heard that even while looking to his station and glancing over at his fiance' occasionally. When their gazes met he gave a loving nod, but nothing more. He was on duty and he would not disrupt that over personal business or feelings. Just seeing Ro was enough for the moment.
"That is going to be one brilliant kid if she takes after her dad," Resch quipped, the Bridge all getting a chuckle from that. "No offense intended, Captain Green."
Green gave him a wry look. "Maybe an inspection is in order, after all. We could start with Security, right Mister Resch?"
"Whenever you're ready, Captain Green." Was Griffon's response, not worried in the slightest over some spur of the moment inspection. He gave her a smile and the Bridge had once more giggled at the interplay. Morale; this was why they did these things on the fly.
Green got Loewen moving, speaking low as they headed over by the Communications/Tertiary station. Sheyla was currently sitting there and Ro put her back to the Bridge to speak low and include just those two. "Sean, I have a question you may not be ready for." Her face remained friendly and passive all at the same time, so it was not a negative query as far as the other two could tell.
Loewen, curious as to what she needed gave her a friendly expression. "Ask, Ro." He replied, keeping his voice low to go along with Green. "I'm sure we can handle it."
Sheyla had decided to stand and get in line with all their backs to the main Bridge, still reaching out to tap her station occasionally. This would prevent her own voice from carrying to the other portions of the Bridge while she sat with her face towards them as she had been sitting. "Please, Captain Green. What's on your mind?"
"Jynxza," Ro said plainly. "Would you be opposed to me taking her with me when I leave? With Yui on the way I'll need an assistant I can count on, who will be with me every day to aid me when things get stressful. Augment or not, I know I'll need some form of aid in the days to come. And, knowing Doctor Williams, he will insist I lessen the workload."
With Green between them, Sheyla and Sean shared a look, both giving a nod to each other in a silent understanding. Loewen answered. "She'll be missed but I am fine with it if Dahl is."
"I stand with the Captain on that, Captain Green," Sheyla responded. "If Jynxza is okay with it then I won't deny her a chance at serving the Fleet Captain. It would do wonders for her career with that in her record."
"Thank you both," Ro said. "I know she's well-liked and good at her job. I just don't want to leave Capernum short."
Loewen could sense something more to this, so had to ask. "Is this also about the Order? My instincts tell me there is more to this."
"They serve you well, Sean." Ro gave a knowing grin. "Yes, she has a power sleeping within her that needs to be awakened. I would rather it come awake around myself in an environment where she would not be hard-pressed with duty to ship and dealing with all the new input. Plus, it adds another X-wing to the defense of M-69. When Kara is not off on an Intelligence assignment that gives three starfighters to add to the mix."
"Then it's settled, Ro." Sean said. "If she wants to transfer under your command, I approve. I take it the Fleet Captain will see to the paperwork?" He gave a crooked smile.
"She will," Ro smiled in return. "Thank you, both. Do you mind if I ask her now? In front of everyone?" Both Sheyla and Loewen motioned to go ahead.
Ro spun around and stood straight, a lighthearted expression on her face. "Lieutenant Dahl, would you interested in serving the office of the Fleet Captain at Starbase M-69?"
The entire Bridge went quiet, all eyes going first to Ro, and then to Dahl to see what she would say. Jynxza took a moment to absorb what had just been asked, the first time in this life she was actually speechless. "You mean, a transfer, Captain Green?"
"I do," Green answered. "With my daughter coming and the additions to M-69 when it comes to starships and other resources, I will need an extra set of hands and eyes to stay caught up. Mister Lasso is a good fill-in, an exceptional officer, but he is first and foremost under Vehn's command. Not that I am complaining about that but his duties may not allow for him to aid me when I need it. I don't want it to conflict with smooth operations. So, I ask again, would being my assistant be of interest to you?"
Jynxza, finally coming to terms with the request, began to smile. "It would be a privilege to serve under the office of Fleet Captain. I accept, Captain Green. How soon will we be leaving?"
Ro gave an answer. "Sometime within the next 48 hours. Kara has some business she needs to attend to when we get back." Sheyla and Loewen returned to their duties as Ro went and stood next to Dahl at her Helm post. "Your X-wing has roughly a 100kg storage area for any personal items you can fit in it. Please, get your things packed up for when Capernum returns to M-69, and bring with you anything of personal value for your stateroom there. Your VIP suite will be next door from mine since I've had it earmarked for whoever became my assistant."
Loewen spoke up from behind them at his chair. "Once you have us in orbit, Jynxza, you are relieved of duty to see to your needs. Lieutenant Thomas Borelli can take over since he is/was your Assistant Chief. I'll have your transfer orders approved by the end of Alpha shift."
"Thank you, Captain Loewen." Dahl said. She was far more excited than she was letting on. "I'll let you inform Mister Borelli of the change. It always sounds better from the CO." She gave him a smile over the shoulder.
Sean gave her a smile back. "As you wish, Miss Jynxza. Just know you'll be missed."
Sheyla spoke up from the XO/Comm station. "I've let Governor Biggs know we'll be in orbit in approximately twenty minutes, Captain. He is excited for our arrival."
"Thank you, Number One." Loewen said. "Let him know I will come down to visit personally once I have completed a wedding for an officer of mine."
Spinning her chair to face her CO more, Sheyla offered an idea with a grin. "You know, Captain, if you made me acting Captain, and then we all went down to Bexa, I could perform the rite of marriage in your stead, both couples, while on the ground under real sunshine. Just a thought." She spun around and went back to viewing her station, as if it was just an afterthought even though she knew it would get grey matter stimulated.
Ro, trying to be casual about it all, just gave Sean a grin and shrug. "I'm good with it. Let me know what you decide, Captain Loewen." Leaving the lower Bridge, Ro then passed by Kudo, giving his shoulder a loving squeeze as she went by and entered the lift. Kudo and Loewen looked at each other, each giving the other a subtle nod to say that sounded like a grand idea.
